Welcome Back Guti!

May 18:  Mariners vs. Angels  (Vargas v. Weaver)

I would like to take this opportunity to say welcome back Franklin Gutierrez!  He had an 0-4 night at the plate but it is good to see the solid center fielder back in a Marines uniform.  Jason Vargas and Jack Cust were the heroes of the night versus the AL West rival Angles.  Jason Vargas went 7 amazing innings striking out 9 of the leagues most dangerous hitters.  Jack Cust, still looking for that first M's homer, came through with a couple of RBI singles that helped the M's win 3-0 over the Angels.  It's good to see that the M's were able to give some run support to Jason Vargas although 3 runs is still pretty low run support.  That seems to be one of the Mariners downfalls this season as it was last season as well.  Last night their 1-4 hitters (Ichiro, Figgins, Smoak, Cust) came through with 5 hits including 2 doubles (Smoak and Figgins) and 3 RBIs (Cust 2, Smoak).  It is great to see that these guys can be depended on but what about the rest of the line up?  The 5-9 batters (Guti, Kennedy, Olivo, Peguero, Rodriguez) could only muster 3 hits (Kennedy 2, Rodriguez) all singles.  It is my opinion that if the Mariners expect to keep winning they need more support from their middle to end of the line up hitters.  They are all very talented and I know they can hit the ball well.  And that is why I am Sleepless Over Seattle.
